TARABA ASSEMBLY: A house divided against itself

LEGISREPORT NG –  Dreams of ensuring a stable House of Assembly in Taraba state may turn out to be a mirage as plans to further ensure a change in the leadership have begun to take a center stage.

Even with the recent change of guard, activities presently going on at the lobby as well as in the hallo chamber, indicated that the center could no longer hold among the entire members of the House.

LEGISREPORTS reliably gathered that the House had been factionalized into two hence the on-going underground plans to further ensure change in the House leadership.

Majority of the members as further learnt by our reporter, are not comfortable with the new speaker, Haruna Tsokwa whom they described as an inexperience leader.

His continued waiting for the scrubs that fell from the table of the Executive arm of the government especially from the office of the Acting Governor, Garba Umar, was observed to be a major factor presently irking the members.

Portraying that all is indeed not well with the members, the members who were observing some days of recess were yesterday hurriedly asked to report at the chamber for an emergency sitting.
Knowing that something dramatic would happen, the chamber, as noticed by LEGISREPORT was filled to capacity by journalists as well as keen followers of political development in the state. The people were however disappointed when after waiting patiently for over three hours, the said emergency sitting was unable to hold.
Briefing newsmen on why the members could not appeared in the chamber, the chairman, House Committee on Information, Daniel Ishaya Gani as well as the Majority Leader Josiah Sabo Kente, said the members decided to resolved their differences in the lobby.
According to Gani, the twenty four members of the House “decided to shift the emergency sitting because of the things we have to sort out among ourselves.” Stressing that some of the “issues” are parts of the “oversights”
functions of the members, he pleaded with the members of the fourth estate of the realm to be patient stating that “when we are through with it, we will still call to brief you people.”
LEGISREPORTS however learnt that the incessant wrangling emanating from the House is being ignited by some wealthy individuals who are always directing the leadership of the House on what to do.

A source from the party {PDP} secretariat located along Barde Way in Jalingo metropolis told our reporter, that “confusion among the members of the House of Assembly will never cease because of the
selfish interest among them.”
“This present speaker” the source who craved for anonymous said “was not the one that supposed to be the new speaker but because of some personal reasons, he was imposed on the members by some outside forces.”

“The game presently going on in the state, has a lot of religion coloration, and that is why you see some of us praying fervently for the ailing governor to recover and come back because it is only him that will be able to quench the fire that is at the verge of ravaging this state” Our source concluded.
