POLITICS: Jonathan visits Obasanjo, stalls meeting with northern Governors

LEGISREPORTS NG – President Goodluck Jonathan was on Saturday at the Oke-Mosan home in Abeokuta, Ogun state of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to pay homage to his estranged godfather.

The visit which was sudden and unscheduled interrupted an ongoing meeting between Obasanjo and some northern governors, and was immediately suspended to allow the president’s arrival the needed attention.

It is however not clear as to the reason for the closed meeting which had lasted about thirty minutes before it was interrupted by the President’s sudden visit.

It was gathered that upon the announcement of the President’s arrival, the gate was immediately shut on other visitors while security was also beefed up outside and along the windy road leading to the ex-president’s hill-top mansion.

A meeting between President Jonathan and Obasanjo immediately followed and was held in closed door.

Reports said that Jonathan and his retinue of aides arrived the expansive compound at exactly 11:52am.

President Jonathan’s presence in Abeokuta was originally to visit his Spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati to condole with him on Friday’s funeral ceremony of his mother, Madam Maria Taiwo Abati.

This report was prepared by our reporter in Abeokuta.
