POLITICS: Assembly members say no to fresh term for Sen. Etok

LEGISREPORTS NG – Members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly from Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial district in the State have told Senator Aloysius Etok who currently represents them at the senate to forger his return bid to the National Assembly in 2015.

Coming under the aegis of Custodian of the Mandate of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, the legislators said they would rather support Governor Godswill Akpabio’s aspiration to represent the area at the Senate.

Akpabio and Etok have been having a public spat over will represent the district in 2015. While the former wants to go to the senate after his governorship in 2015, the latter, a second term senator, seeks to retain his seat.

Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State Assembly, Hon. Udo Kieran, who spoke on behalf of the group, said their decision to back Akpabio followed Etok’s recent comment that the seat would not be vacant in 2015.

“In 2015, we are not with Senator Aloysius Etok, but we are with Governor Godswill Akpabio whom we see as a superior representative that would do better in the Senate,” he said, adding: “We want to warn Etok to desist from assuming the powers he does not have and to refrain from talking as if he is the sole owner of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district.”
