LEGISREPORTS NG – Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin of the All Progressives Congress has declared his intention to run for speaker of the House of Representatives.
Jubrin made this declaration at a press briefing where he highlighted his 3 – point agenda that will address transparency within the legislature, institutional strength and continuity in legislative business.
He said his agenda is to help reposition the legislature to achieve its mandate on healthcare, education, youth development, agriculture, child rights, rights of persons with disability, gender issues and economic diversification.
Hon. Jibrin said if elected as Speaker, he will make public the running cost of the House of Representatives.
He said,
” the government has to cut down the cost of governance. I believe the cost of governance is part of the president elect’s mandate, and this is mine as well”.
Hon. Jibrin who is presently the Chairman, House Committee Finance, said he has gained enough experience in managing public finance and economy of Nigeria since 2011.
He said under his leadership the finance committee was able to improve internally generated revenue, reduce domestic borrowing, ensure tax compliance by corporate bodies and provided a suitable medium term expenditure framework.
Hon. Abdulmumin Jubrin is the first member to publicly declare interest to contend for the Speaker of the lower chamber in the National Assembly, and he has solicited for the support of present and past speakers, fellow members of the All Progressives Congress and Nigerians.
