SIDE NEWS: 18 C’River Monarchs stage classical music to appreciate present realities

LEGISREPORTS NG – Key paramount rulers in the 18 LGAs of Cross River State and other high level chiefs came together yesterday in calabar to stage a grand musical concert as a way of soul-awakening.

The event was tagged ‘Solemn Moment with the Kings’ and was organised by the State Traditional Rulers Council.Chairman of the state traditional rulers council and paramount ruler of Bakassi LGA, Dr Etim Okon Edet said that the idea of classical music was to arouse the mature minds in order to appreciate realities of the times. He said they also organised the event to awaken the consciousness of the people on the significance of Easter.Edet said that the resurrection of Jesus Christ was a period of sober reflection which classical music represents.

According to him, the event was also designed to add value to the tourism potentials of the state and stressed the need for the government to include it in its tourism calendar.

Cross River Head of Service, Theresa Ikwen who represented Governor Liyel Imoke at the event commended the Traditional Rulers council for putting up the event. She said that the state government will do everything possible to sustain it and encouraged the growth of young artists in the State.She said: “we have the responsibility of encouraging upcoming artists to grow.

The young artist needs our support to grow both in the state and Nigeria at large.’’The event featured different renditions by young and upcoming artists, drama and choral singing by different choirs groups.
