SENATE NEWS: Senator pledges effective representation, partnership
LEGISREPORTS NG – The Senator representing Akwa Ibom South, Senator Helen Esuene has pledged her partnership, continuous support and equal representation in the senate, when she received an excellence award for effective representation and presentation of certificate by the Civil Society Forum, Akwa Ibom State.
Esuene drawing attention to a monument erected by her in honour of 1929 Women Riot which actually took place in Ikot Abasi and not Aba as erroneously believed stated that the historical protest zone deserved to be remembered in view of its historical relevance to the women and Akwa Ibom State in particular.
The lawmaker who was represented by her Principal Aid, Owen Owen, disclosed that the women riot actually took place in Ikot Abasi, said that a multi-million naira women war monument centre is being constructed in Ikot Abasi Local Governent of Akwa Ibom state was part of her contribution to the development of her constituency and Akwa Ibom state in general.
She also said that three classrooms block each has been constructed in Eket, Ikot Ababsi and Oron Local Government Areas; an iron pot processing industry and palm oil mill in Esit Eket to provide employment for those in the area.
According to Senator Esuene, more than 387 indigenes from the area have been gainfully employed in the industries, hotels and gas Services Company established to cater for the employment need of the people in her constituency in particular and the state in general.
In his speech delivered earlier, the Chairman of the Civil Society, Comrade Uduak Akpan had informed the lawmaker that the award was in recognition of her immense leadership qualities and her concern for the less priviledge in Akwa Ibom South and the state in general.
According to Akpan, the organization was overwhelmed with the activities of Senator Esuene which has transformed the Akwa Ibom South into an economic hub as well as creating an enabling environment for the people to engage in skills acquisition training programme.
He told the senator that the objective of the society is to ensure that Government at all levels focus on more challenging task of development in order to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians.
