LEGISREPORTS NG – The Nigeria Senate President David Mark has Commended INEC’s Jega for a successful outing in the just concluded general elections saying that, “For the successes in the 2015 general elections, special commendation must go to Prof. Attahiru Jega and his team at INEC”.
Speaking at the resumed plenary of the Red Chamber after the elections recess, Senator Mark said, ” the introduction of the Card Readers added value to the electoral process.
“I therefore urge Nigerians to accept and indeed imbibe the new voting technology. The Card Readers have proved to be effective, efficient, and result-oriented.
Mark who was one of the lawmakers who secured return back to the hallowed chambers said further that, ” We should embrace this technology”.adding that ” However, INEC must note the areas of its shortcomings based on field reports nationwide and continue to make improvements”
Senator Mark also commended the show of Maturity by politicians especially president Goodluck Jonathan.
He said, ” I would like to commend the maturity and sportsmanship displayed by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, who willingly conceded defeat and immediately congratulated the President-Elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari, (rtd) GCFR, even before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result.
“That singular act saved us from a possible crisis and catastrophe. The President’s action added value to the consolidation of democracy in our land, raised the benchmark of peaceful democratic transition and consequently, set a new democratic template in our continent notorious for her infamous sit-tight leaders.
“I also extend my warm felicitation to the President-Elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) GCFR. The President-Elect has extended a hand of fellowship to President Jonathan and his team. He has also followed it up with conciliatory statements that further reinforce the unity and peace of our society. Said Mark.
