SENATE NEWS: Jonathan Seeks Senate Confirmation for Secretary, members of EFCC Board

LEGISREPORTS NG — The senate on Tuesday received a communication from President Goodluck Jonathan seeking confirmation for a new secretary and members of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) board.

 

In a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Senator David Mark and dated April 11, President Jonathan listed Mr. Adesojo O. Olaoba-Efuntayo (South West) as his nominee for the position of secretary of the EFCC. Listed as members of the board in the letter are Barrister Michael Ebong (South South), Mr. Uwasomba Udochukwu (South East), Mr. Emmanuel O. Ibitolu (North Central) and Dr. Ismaila Mohammed Dukku (North East).

 

The president based his decision on Section 2 (1) (a) and (b) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004, which provides for the appointment of the chairman and members of the commission.

 

In another communication, President Jonathan asked the Senate to confirm Hajia Fatima Kwaku and Mr. Olumuyiwa Akinboro as members of the Federal Judicial Service Commission, based on Section 154 sub-sections (1) and (3) and Paragraph 12 (e) of Part 1 to the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
