SENATE NEWS: 2013 budget: Senator accuses Science and Tech Ministry of budgeting N896 million to supervise N50 million projects
LEGISREPORTS NG – Chairman, Senate Committee on Science and Technology, Senator Robert Ajayi Borrofice, (ACN, Ondo North), yesterday, accused the ministry of science and technology of corruption when making a disclosure that it inflated the costs of projects in its 2013 budget over fifteen times the actual figure required for implementation.
The lawmaker attributed the backward progression of the nation’s economy to the high level and prevalence of corruption in government ministries, departments and agencies.
Senator Borofice, stated this on Monday during an interview with newsmen in Abuja.
Borrofice, who Chairs the Senate Committee on Science and Technology, dismissed claims by the executive arm of government that National Assembly made deep cuts in capital projects funds in the 2013 budget.
He explained that his committee for instance made cuts to the inflated allocation by the ministry of science and technology for the supervision of listed projects.
Borrofice regretted the poor funding for science and Technology in the country, one that he hinged on insufficient annual allocations to the Ministry.
