RIVERS POLITICS: Lawmaker explains reason for dumping Gov Amaechi

LEGISREPORTS NG – One of the 27 Lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly believed to be loyalists of Governor Chibuike Amaechi, Hon. Ikuiyi Ibani is now a member of the Grassroots Development Initiative, GDI.

The GDI is backed by the Supervising Minister of Education Nyesom Wike and strongly opposed to the Rivers Governor Chibuike Amaechi.

Hon. Ikuiyi Ibani who is the Chief Whip of the Assembly and member representing Andoni Constituency told LEGISREPORTS in a telephone interview why he joined GDI.

“If you have knowledge of my political sojourn you would have known that Prince Secondus is my mentor, my friend, my brother, my father in politics, I am addicted to Prince Secondus, GDI is the sole of PDP Partisan politics in Rivers State and there is no other platform, because PDP is my platform. If i chose to re-position my interest as a partisan politician, i should be able to identify which platform has the same thinking, the same view with me” he said.

With the defection of Ikuiyi Ibani to GDI and the loss of the former speaker, Hon. Tony Harry to death, the Pro-Amaechi lawmakers is now 25.

Meanwhile, the member representing Port Harcourt Constituency 3 in the Assembly Hon. Victor Ihunwo has revealed that they have majority of the supporters among the 27 Pro-Amaechi lawmakers.

Speaking to LEGISREPORTS, Hon. Ihunwo said that, the 27 Lawmakers loyal to Amaechi have reduced in number following the death of Tonye Harry and the member representing Andoni Constituency in the Assembly.

Ikuiyi Ibani while expressing his support for the anti-Amaechi Group, the Grassroots Development Initiative, said:

“We have people that are with us, we are of the majority, this one they are saying 27 are with them, Tonye is not alive, Ibani is now with us and some other ones, they should stop deceiving themselves” he said.

Hon. Ihunwo also said it would take only a matter of time before the Pro-Amaechi lawmakers will defect to their camp.

“Ibani has been with us for long, so people saying that we were 5, the thing sounds funny gradually they will see all of them. Ibani has been with with us and everybody knows him in the House and they know his pedigree, so when they say Ibani has just decamp, it makes me laugh” he said.
