LEGIS-PROFILE: Omowunmi Olatunji-Edet – An Intelligent Female Legislator With Style, Elegance

LEGISREPORTS NG – The saying that “what a man can do, a woman can do better” is no doubt something one can find in the member representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 2, Hon. Omowunmi Olatunji-Edet.

 

An astute legislator in the state, Olatunji-Edet was born on August 15, 1973 in Lagos Island to the family of Pa. Eddo Samuel Olatunji.

 

She attended St. Louis Girls Grammar School, Akure, where she had her Secondary School Leaving Certificate. A graduate of Education from the National Teachers Institutes Kaduna; graduate of English Language from Lagos State University. She also had a certificate course from Harvard Kennedy School, USA and also a certificate course from London Valley University, Slough in the United Kingdom.

Olatunji-Edet, who is also a pastor by calling had a diploma in Religious Studies from Bible Faith Training Centre. Olatunji-Edet, who has been a Pastor since 1988, is one of regular Pastors that has preached at the House of Assembly Chapel.

 

A co-Founder of FEEDEM Africa Foundation. A foundation that empower, train and see to transformation of less privileged men and women, youth and children across the continent of Africa.

 

The elegant female lawmaker who was once married, but now divorced, has three kids and is now serving a second timer in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

 

As a first timer, she was made the Chairman House Committee on Science and Technology and on returning in 2011 as a second timer, she was made the Chairman, House Committee on Establishment, Training and Pension, a position she still occupies.

 

She is also a member of other committees, which include Public Account (State);  Home Affairs and Culture; Physical planning and Urban Development and Central Business District (CBD); Health Service.

 

She was one term Board member of the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Social Development, Lagos State.

 

 

For being outstanding among other female legislators, she has attended seminars and conferences, which include NSCL Annual Legislative summit in USA: Center for management Development in Abuja; International Commonwealth parliamentary Association; Conference in Nairobi Kenya; Olave Baden Powell Society in UK; International Federation of Training and Development Organisation, A World Conference in London.

 

She has actively and positively contributed to activities on the floor of the House of Assembly includes and motions moved by Olatunji-Edet include: the motion to immortalise former Governor of Lagos State Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; motion to tighten up security against incessant child kidnapping; motion to call on Law Enforcement Agents to remove destitutes on pedestrian bridges and railway in the popular Oshodi Bus Stop.

 

Bills sponsored by her include Residents Registration Bill, and Special People’s Bill.

 

Her political activities, representation and community projects includes: Youth empowerment program; soft loan scheme to 314 market men and women; scholarship program to not less than 265 secondary school students; empowerment of aged and windows; empowerment of artisans and small scale business owners; distribution of transformers to various communities in the constituency·

 

She also facilitated construction of some roads, drains and provision of infrastructure across the constituency which includes James Oni Electrification project, Ago Okota Round About Traffic Light, Ibeh Road, Pako Junction Traffic Light, Ago Palace Way Expansion protect, Ejigbo / Ajao Estate’s link bridge and road.
