LEGISREPORTS NG – The Department of Security Services (DSS) has recently apprehended a Chinese national for alleged espionage and promptly caused him to be deported out of the country.
The foreign national whose name is not immediately known, is said to be working for Chinese telecoms conglomerate, Huawei Technology, was apprehended for allegedly hacking into sensitive national security infrastructure of the DSS.The culprit whose is said to be in his late thirties was finally caught at the Abuja airport after the DSS had mounted weeks of surveillance on his activities while trying to hack into the security network.
The man was bid to join an Arik flight from Abuja to Lagos on the last Friday of March from where he would have taken off to Beijing, according to insiders in the security circle aware of the matter.But unknown to him, vigilant agents of the DSS had been detailed to trail and eventually arrest him based on “overwhelming evidence of security breach” as informed by a source.
LEGISREPORTS gathered heat upon his arrest at Abuja airport, a search was conducted on him and his laptop and other security equipment confiscated before he was taken into custody.
The Chinese national was said to have acted defensively suspicious upon his arrest and could not coherently defend himself against the charge at a temporary detention centre around the airport before he was eventually moved to the DSS headquarters for further interrogation.
He has been deported to his country, ” said a source in the intelligence community who declined further comments because he was speaking anonymously.It was not clear if the Chinese embassy in Abuja was contacted by security agencies on the matter nor if the authorities of Huawei Technologies were carried along in the investigation. Attempts to reach the spokes persons of the DSS and the Nigeria Immigration Service for official reaction were not successful.
