LEGISREPORTS NG – Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. Josiah kente, has resigned. Sources close to him said the speaker alluded to “pressures” to step down.
Kente, a loyalist of the sacked acting governor, Garba Umar, was an adamant crusader for the removal of Governor Danbaba Suntai from office.
Since the sack, Friday, many members of the assembly loyal to Umar had continued to jump ship, tiding over to the reinstated deputy governor, Alhaji Sani Abubakar Danladi.
Indications that the members have abandoned their erstwhile benefactor, Umar, surfaced Friday evening when many of them popularly known as G-16 showed up at the Jalingo airport to welcome Sani after the Supreme Court verdict.
Kente is younger brother to Chief David Sabo Kente, a PDP aspirant in the upcoming governorship contest.
His resignation is coming against intense political brinkmanship in the state. Last night, sources said, a number of members were seen trooping to Sani’s residence apparently to append their signatures to an impeachment order on Kente. By resigning, Kente probably made a smart move to avoid a disgraceful impeachment.
