BAYELSA NEWS: Ex- Minister accuses Former Bayelsa Attorney General of $3m fraud
LEGISREPORTS NG – Former Minister of Petroelum,Chief Dan Etete has threatened to drag the former Bayelsa state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Anthony George Ikoli before the Economicand Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged $3million fraud.He alleged that Ikoli who was the Justice Commissioner and Attorney-General of the State during the Chief Timipre Sylva administration, collected the sum of $3million dollars from him to purchase 40 Buses for his Dan Etete Foundation as part of his empowerment plan for youths in Rivers,Bayelsa and Delta States but supplied sub-standard buses.
Represented by his brother and Coordinator of the Dan Etete Foundation, Chief Kojo Etete, he told newsmen yesterday in Yenagoa, that the supplied vehicles are sub-standard and a danger to intended beneficiaries of the foundation.
Kojo Etete, said rather than honour the agreement, the Former Attorney-General, purchased 40 poor quality Jin Bei buses from China which do not have after sales maintenance agreement and spare parts in the country.
“We are giving him a seven-day ultimatum to withdraw these vehiclesand provide quality buses or return the money otherwise we will petition him to the Nigeria Bar Association and the EFCC,”Etete said though the disciplinary Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has been notified, the Foundation decided to raise the alarm and inform the Bayelsa State Government.
He disclosed that his brother was using the foundation to donate the vehicles to Bayelsa State Government as part of his contributions to ongoing development efforts in the state.
He conducted newsmen around the 40 Jin Bei buses which have been parked at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Yenagoa although they are yet to be presented to the state government.Anthony George Ikoli did not respond to calls and text messages to his mobile number as at the time of filing this report.
